Lazy eye, or amblyopia, while not related to any other vision or medical condition, is the lack of proper development of central vision in one eye. It generally develops before a child reaches the age of 6, symptoms are not always obvious and it unfortunately cannot be corrected with glasses. It can result from a failure to use both eyes together.
The sooner lazy eye is identified and treated the better are the chances for a complete recovery. Treatment for amblyopia often includes a combination of eye patching, vision therapy and prescription lenses.
If lazy eye is diagnosed at a later age, the treatment modalities are not as effective. This is another reason to have children seen at an early age by an optometrist, who can readily diagnose this condition which affects more than 4 million Americans.

I've been a patient of Dr. Oku for about 2-3yrs. It's always a pleasure scheduling my annual appointments. The staff is very accommodating, and the service is great. I would definitely refer this office to friends and family. :)
